Improving Communication with a 4 Color Test

Tuesday 28 March 2023

What makes an organization what it is? The identity of the organization is not determined by the office buildings; they are simply an expression of it. It is not the hyper-modern (or outdated) IT systems, nor is the identity formed by logistical processes. The most important factor that determines the culture and identity of an organization is the way in which people within it interact with each other. The identity of the organization is the sum of individual personalities and the product of the degree of collaboration. You can improve this collaboration with a 4-color teamwork workshop.

The fact that the identity of your organization is determined by the people does not mean that you have no influence on it. As an HR professional, you know better than anyone that, with careful selection, you can give the culture a push in the right direction. And you also know that improving communication will only benefit the organization. Many courses focus on communication skills, in addition to the subject matter, in secondary vocational, higher education, and university levels. Thus, professionals (thankfully) already have some communication skills when entering the workforce. But the available time in school is limited, so there is often room for improvement. It is also possible to learn how to improve communication in your team with a 4-color personality test. TestGroup provides the 1-day in-company training, 16 Jung Types and 4-colors for this purpose.

Different colors = different communication styles

One of the pitfalls that an employee can fall into is that he or she remains stuck in a certain communication style. If a style is successful for a while, someone will have a preference for it. In addition, people have an innate tendency towards a certain way of communicating.

The 4-color model is a well-known and simple model that includes the different styles of communication. While everyone has a little of each, everyone has one primary color in which he or she feels comfortable. That primary color, together with the secondary one, says a lot about how to approach the person. Do you want to know what your preferred color is? The Bridge Personality 4-color report has everything you need.

Blue

When someone values objective facts, blue is their primary color. Someone with this preference is analytical, focused on details, and looking for structure. This employee will want to study a problem thoroughly before taking action.

Red

Someone for whom red is the primary color is sharp, assertive, and determined. He or she works resolutely and decisively. The "red" employee does not want to analyze endlessly, but wants to take action.

Green

The color green stands for someone who is calm and relaxed. He or she is focused on the relationship and strives for harmonious collaboration. This is the employee who is always caring and is always ready for colleagues.

Yellow

If yellow is someone's primary color, then you are dealing with an enthusiastic, cheerful, and inspired visionary. The yellow employee is extremely expressive and dynamic. He or she is full of energy.

When reading the descriptions above, it is immediately clear that some colors may not understand each other optimally. A Blue employee just doesn't understand why that Red wants to "blast off" while not all the facts are known yet. The Red thinks the Blue is dragging their feet. Mr. Green likes peace, while Mrs. Yellow bounces all over the place.

This diversity in characteristics can cause friction unless everyone is aware of the differences and realizes that the different colors can complement each other.

A 4-color test makes different communication styles visible

The 4-color personality test is a convenient, fast, and affordable personality test that yields scientifically-validated results. This means you can trust the results. The color test is available for businesses, governments, and freelancers and can be taken in 20 languages, at various educational levels (vocational, applied sciences, academic). The 4-color test can be taken at the individual level, team level, and organizational level. At the individual level, this is a great way to gain insight into an applicant's communication style. A color test at the team level works wonders for improving collaboration within the team, while the test at the organizational level is ideal for strengthening internal communication and mapping the organizational culture.

Online 4-color personality test

The 4-color personality test starts with an online questionnaire. This is completed by the participants whenever and wherever it suits them. Thanks to smart algorithms and artificial intelligence, you receive an extensive report at the level of the individual participant and (in a team analysis) a 4-color team report almost immediately after the questionnaire has been submitted. The personal report translates the score on 34 different competencies into a color from the 4-color model. The team report shows the strengths and action points for the entire team. Both reports immediately provide some concrete tools to improve collaboration.

How do the color test results help improve communication?

The outcomes of the color test are not a judgment but reveal something about personal behavioral preferences. There is no right or wrong. The model does give insight into the differences. Why does someone react the way they do? Why does something hit you harder? The model tells you how you communicate and how the other communication styles affect you. In addition, the 4-color model tells you how your communication style comes across to the other person (with their own color) and how you can better connect with your communication. With the 4-color test, you get to know each other and discover how you can communicate more effectively.
